The stock mirrors are one of the very first things we replace on our project bikes. On our supermoto builds, we usually install our clamp-on Supermoto Mirrors, and we were excited to see how they’d fit our new Ducati Hypermotard 698 Project Bike. There’s good news… we mounted up the PRO Model mirrors, and they fit the handlebars on this bike very nicely. We like these mirrors because they offer excellent visibility, and don’t vibrate even on these big single cylinder bikes, plus they look so much better than the stock mirrors!
One thing to note, when you install these mirrors on the Hyper 698, you’ll pull off the bikes stock mirrors, and on this bike, the mirrors are actually holding on the clutch and brake reservoirs. So, we had to figure out a way to re-secure those, and it was a bit tricky because the right side threaded hole is reverse thread. We came up with a solution and offer it as an option with the mirrors (see photo below).
You’ll also notice in the photos that we replaced the bike’s stock grips with one of our favorite grips, the Domino XM2.
Finally, since supermotos don’t really offer a lot of room to carry anything, we use these clever little handlebars bags from Giant Loop on our supermoto and dual sport builds. These bags attach to your handlebars, and are just big enough to fit your smart phone and keys, even a small wallet, gas cards, etc.
