Our Suzuki DRZ400SM Project Bike Update Video…

The SRmoto.com Suzuki DRZ400SM is a 2008 model that we bought used with 3500 miles on the odometer. The bike was completely stock except for a Supertrapp muffler. Here’s what we’ve done to it so far…

ENGINE/PERFORMANCE:
When we first got this bike, the only performance modification it had was a SuperTrapp muffler. It was ugly, loud and weighed a ton. The first thing we did was replace the entire exhaust system with our FMF Q4 Performance Exhaust Package, which consists of FMF Q4 muffler and their Stainless Steel PowerBomb header. At the same time, we did the 3×3 airbox mod, replaced the stock air filter with a No Toil two stage foam filter, and re-jetted the carb with a DynoJet Jet Kit. I couldn’t be happier with this setup…. the FMF system sounds excellent, it’s quite a bit lighter than the stock exhaust, and it adds a significant amount of performance. Here are the links to the mods we did…

• FMF PowerBomb Header (as part of above package)
• Dynojet Jet Kit (as part of above package)
• K&N Air Filter (as part of above package)
• 3×3 Airbox Mod

LIGHTING:
Like all dual sport bikes, the stock rear tail light and front/rear turn signals on the DRZ400’s are very large in size and not very easy on the eyes. We wanted something that would really clean up the rear fender of the bike and we also wanted to get rid of the big front turn signals. Since we wanted to add handguards to the bike right off the bat, we went with our Zeta Armor Handguard Package with built-in turn signals. This really cleans up the front of the bike. We also replaced the stock headlight with an Acerbis LED vision headlight, and Cyclops LED headlight bulb… a very trick setup for sure! Out back we ditched the huge stock tail light and turn signals, replacing them with our nice and compact DRC Edge2 Integrated Tail Light Kit. We disabled the integrated turn signal feature of that tail light and used DRC Type 601 LED turn signals which are bolted up to the side of the tail light. These simple changes make the bike look WAY better!! Here are the links to the mods we did…

COCKPIT:
The stock footpegs on the DRZ400 don’t offer much grip and are very narrow. We decided to replace them with a pair of DRC Wide footpegs, which have a wider step width and are much more comfortable/grippy. Already discussed above, the Zeta Armor Handguards with built-in turn signals look great and eliminate the big ugly stock front turn signals. One of our favorite mods has been a Seat Concepts Seat which is way more comfortable than the stock seat, especially on longer rides. Here’s a list of the mods we’ve done…

DRC Wide Footpegs
Zeta Armor Hand Guards with XC Flasher Protectors
Zeta Handguard Triple Clamp Mounts

PROTECTION:
The OEM Chain Guide and Chain Cover were one of the first things we took off the bike. The Z Carbon Chain Guide and Chain Cover bolted right on and look awesome. We also added Z Carbon Frame Guards to protect the frame from scratches…they look great too. Last but not least are the beautiful Lightspeed Carbon Fiber Engine Case Guards, which help protect the engine and water pump from damage. Here are links to these mods…

BODY:
Our stock front fender was a little scratched up and that gave me the perfect excuse to replace it. I wanted something a little bit smaller, with vents in the rear of the fender. Acerbis’s Supermoto fender fit the bill perfectly. It looks awesome on the bike…much better than the overly large stock fender. Our bike was due for a coolant change, so we also did a DRC Radiator Hose Kit in red, which is both functional as well as very cool looking.

BRAKES:
The stock brakes on our DRZ400SM weren’t the greatest, so we wanted to get them upgraded right away. We went with Galfer Brake Lines front and rear, and their Kevlar/Ceramic brake pads. This setup is awesome… much more responsive and better overall feel in the front brake lever and rear brake pedal.
