Click the video above for a quick review of the Moose Racing PRO Skid Plate (and also their Cargo Rack) that we’ve been running on our Honda CRF300L Project Bike.

The Honda CRF300L’s do not come from the factory with any type of skid plate to protect the engine and frame. If you plan to do any serious off-road riding with your CRF300L, we definitely recommend installing a high quality skid plate. Our preference is a plastic skid plate whenever one is available, because they seem to vibrate less and are a little quieter than the aluminum skid plates. These small single cylinder bikes tend to make a bit of a racket with an aluminum skid plate, so that’s why we use the plastic skid plates on most of our dual sport project bikes.

Our favorite skid plate for the CRF300L is the Moose Racing PRO Plastic skid plate (shown above). This skid plate, manufactured by AXP Racing in Europe, and imported by Moose Racing, is made from flexible high-density Polyethylene plastic that is 6mm thick for maximum protection of your CRF’s engine and frame. Unlike aluminum, the plastic construction absorbs impacts, does not undergo deformations, does not generate vibrations, and is 40% lighter than aluminum. These are very simple to install on these bikes, bolting right up to existing threaded mounting holes on the frame, and all mounting hardware is included. Oil drain plug holes are one nice feature, as is the optional rear shock linkage guard that bolts up to the rear of the skid plate to help protect your lower shock linkage. You can’t go wrong with this product if you’re taking your CRF off-road!
