One of the nice things about a dual sport bike like the WR250R is that it can be two bikes in one. With the stock knobbies, you have a very capable off-road bike that can also be ridden on the street to and from the trails. And by adding a set of 17″ supermoto wheels and tires, you can also have a very capable corner carver for more hardcore street riding.

Converting your WR250R to a supermoto is pretty straightforward. All you need is a set of 17″ supermoto wheels like the ones we use from Warp 9 Racing, and then some sticky supermoto street tires like the Bridgestones we use (see details below). There are a few other things you need to do to fit the smaller 17″ wheels/tires. Up front, in order to clear the smaller 17″ supermoto tire, you have to re-route the front brake line to the outside of the fork leg and also trim the plastic fork protectors. You also need to source a shorter kick stand…. we just ordered an OEM kickstand from a 2008-2011 WR250X Supermoto, which is about an inch shorter and will bolt right on. As for a rear sprocket, the gearing you choose is a personal preference type of thing, but on our bike we went with a 42T rear sprocket, which also happens to be what the WR250X Supermoto’s came stock with.

Our bike is currently equipped with the following mods and accessories, all of which will work on any 2008+ Yamaha WR250R or WR250X…
