Pro Taper Contour 1 1/8″ Handlebars CR Mid Bend
One of the first things many riders change on their new CRF250L is the handlebars. The stock handlebars are 7/8″ in size and made out of steel. Most people will swap those out for a high quality aluminum handlebar, which is lighter and more durable for off-road riding.
Handlebar Sizing: The stock CRF250L has 7/8″ size handlebars. If you want to stick with 7/8″ handlebars, all you’ll need to do is pick out a new aluminum handlebar in that same 7/8″ size and it will bolt right on. If you want to upgrade to oversize 1 1/8″ handlebars, you’ll need adapters (see info below) to convert the stock 7/8″ lower bar mounts to the 1 1/8″ size. Please note that oversize handlebars are only “oversize” on the center part of the bar where it bolts up to the bike. They taper back down to 7/8″ where the controls mount, that way all your stock controls will go right back on. Additionally, 7/8″ handlebars will have a cross brace, whereas 1 1/8″ bars typically will not.
Handlebar Bends: Manufacturers like Pro Taper and Renthal offer their handlebars in a variety of bends so you can customize the fit and feel of your new bars. Which bend you choose is a personal preference thing. For the Honda CRF250L, we like Pro Taper handlebars in the “CR Mid”, “CR High”, and “Henry/Reed” bends. On our personal CRF250L’s we use the CR Mid bend, but the CR High and Henry/Reed bend seem to also be popular with our customers.
