If you’ve ever ridden a bike with a gear position indicator, you’ll wonder why all bikes don’t have them. Like a lot of dual sport bikes, the dashboard on the Yamaha WR250R/X is very basic, and only displays speed, an odometer, and the time. You can now add a gear indicator to that thanks to the folks over at 12oClockLabs. This is a MUST-HAVE mod!

We recently installed one on both our Yamaha WR250R Project Bike and our Yamaha WR250X Project Bike. Installation is very simple, and setup is a breeze, thanks to the excellent instructions included with the kit. All wiring tucks up nicely under the side panel, seat and gas tank, and we attached the LED display unit to the right side of the dashboard. Once installed, you complete the setup by running the bike through the gears in “Learning Mode”, and then you’re ready to ride.

While riding, the gear you’re in will be displayed on the LED display each time you release the clutch. Response time is very impressive, and both daytime and night time visibility is excellent thanks to the super-bright LED’s and built-in brightness control.
