I’ve used Seat Concepts seats on several dual sport bikes over the years and they are a must-have upgrade if you’re like me and can’t sit on the stock seat for more than about 50 miles. I’ve done several 250+ mile days on their seats and they are a HUGE improvement over pretty much any OEM seat.
The stock seat on the DRZ400 is very narrow and is made of a relatively firm foam material. The Seat Concepts seat, on the other hand, is about 9″ at its widest point, compared to about 7″ for the stock seat (see photo above). It also has slightly softer foam than the stock seat. The combination of softer foam and wider seating surface make it much more comfortable, especially on longer rides.
I was OK with the stock seat height on our DRZ400SM, thanks to the 17″ wheels, so I went with the Standard Foam Height (same height as stock seat), but a Low Foam version is available if you want to get a little bit lower on your bike. I went with the Black Carbon Vinyl/Black Gripper cover material, which has a nice grippy material on top and really holds me in place on the bike.
Cover Material Options:
The Black Carbon Vinyl/Black Gripper cover we have on our bike features a black gripper material on top of seat and a black carbon-look vinyl material on the sides. It’s a great option for aggressive riding when you want to be held in place. The other cover option is an All Carbon Vinyl which features the carbon-look vinyl on the entire seat. It has a texture that acts like a very light gripper material and it’s easy to move around on the seat. If you like to really move and slide around on your bike, this is a great option.
Foam Height Options:
The Standard Height Foam version we have on our bike is about the same height as stock, but about 2″ wider than stock at its widest point. The other option available is the Low Height Foam, which is about 1″ lower than stock, and still features the wider seating surface.
